CURRENT MOON

It's Spring!

The calendar says Spring, but the 18 inches of snow covering my garden says otherwise. The muck and mess underneath that snow will be a sight for sore eyes.

Outside the box.

Let it grow. Just because your space is limited doesn't mean your choice of crops has to be. I consistantly plant and successfully harvest large vine vegetables such as Pumpkin, squash and other goodies.

Crops you didn't think you could grow.

Small urban gardens can produce some surprising results with enough research and imagination. During the 2010 growing season I successfully produced multiple small batches of hard Red Spring Wheat. Growing grains that are seemingly only for large scale producers had been a dream of mine for years and I thought it was time to experiment..

High-rise gardening.

Utilizing unused spaces.
We all have those areas that would normally gather weeds, trash and otherwise remain an eyesore.
With as little as a foot of space from your property line or fenced border you can think like an urban developer and go UP. I've always had a passion for one of the easiest to grow varieties, the Sunflower.

Last year I went big, bold and Up. I converted ugly unused fence line space into a productive and natural
privacy screen. Despite some squirrel damage I harvested over 35 plants, many of which exceeded 16 feet in height with seed heads nearly 18 inches across.

Be a Preppie

Perrenial kindness.
Prairie grasses are our friends, but don't neglect them. Although these beautiful plants require little maintenance there's some simple things you can do to assure their returning beauty next spring.
